Seeking help for change is YOUR decision.
Whether you decide to seek treatment or are still on the fence, we at Bridges, LLC are here to help. Taking the first step to getting your desired help can feel uncomfortable and intimidating. To make this process as comfortable as possible, the therapists at Bridges offer a free 20-minute virtual consultation.
This consultation allows you to ask the therapist any questions about the counseling process and for the therapist to provide a brief assessment to ensure they are the right fit for you. Agreeing to this consultation does not mean you agree to work with this therapist. You, as the client, will always have the final say regarding your treatment following the therapist’s recommendation at the end of the consultation.
There’s always a reason to put off calling or taking the first step, but it’s worth it. Change can be terrifying, and not knowing where to begin can feel overwhelming. Don’t overthink it.
Set up your free 20-minute consultation today and begin your journey to healing and change.
What you will experience at Bridges.
Regular psychotherapy sessions last 45-50 minutes. The intake session is a more in-depth assessment than our 20-minute virtual consultation and is typically more question-driven than a typical session.
Upon arrival at our office, you will notice various seating options throughout the counseling suite. You are welcome to sit anywhere you like while waiting for your therapist to get you. There is no reception or formal check-in process. You are welcome to text or email your therapist upon arrival if you would like, but this is not required. Please be mindful of those in session and keep noise to a minimum.
You sit down in a peaceful waiting room when you come through the door. Sound machines calm your nerves, and the air has a pleasant aroma. As you remain seated, you will experience calmness, feel your body relax, and know that you are in a healing place that offers hope and change in a new direction.
What to expect during your session.
Talking to a therapist differs from talking to a family member, friend, or co-worker. Beyond popular belief, therapists do more than give advice or ask questions. Therapists have the training necessary to look for things that go unnoticed or unacknowledged in everyday conversation or interaction.
In therapy, it is usual for your therapist to invite you into deeper processing and self-exploration about something that may seem trivial at first but could have deeper roots attached to it. Your therapist will teach you about the procedures they use and how they benefit your treatment goals.
The content of the discussion can occasionally be uncomfortable and challenging, especially when exploring unspoken topics or traumatic events. Your therapist’s job is to accompany you on this journey of exploration that can be scary or difficult to do alone. The therapist will walk a fine line between challenging you while also keeping you secure throughout this process.
As the client, you may always ask your therapist questions about treatment and elaborate on their treatment modality. As therapists, our ethics emphasize “no harm” to our clients. The therapists at Bridges adhere to this commitment, take it extremely seriously, and encourage any client to inform us if they ever feel unsafe or disrespected during this process.
